Don’t Miss the WSP Deadline

Annual Workplace Skills Plans are due by 30 April.

A Workplace Skills Plan, also known as a WSP, helps identify the training and skills needs of a company, sets out a structured plan to address those needs, and supports compliance with relevant skills development requirements.

A properly prepared WSP also gives the relevant SETA the information it needs to support sector planning, especially around scarce and critical skills. When submitted correctly and on time, it can help organisations access grants that may be used toward training implementation.

“A Workplace Skills Plan helps identify training needs, support compliance, and guide future skills development within the organisation.”

Why Your Workplace Skills Plan Matters

A Workplace Skills Plan is not only an administrative requirement. It is a practical planning tool that helps your business understand what training is needed, which employees require development, and how skills development can support both operational goals and BEE compliance.

When combined with an Annual Training Report, the WSP allows your company to report on training that has already taken place and outline the training planned for the next 12 months.

What Your Submission Should Include:

Your annual skills submission usually includes:

  • An Annual Training Report that confirms training completed during the past 12 months

  • A Workplace Skills Plan that sets out the training planned for the next 12 months

  • Details of employees who received training

  • Training priorities based on business and operational needs

  • Training aligned with sector requirements and scarce or critical skills

  • Supporting records needed for SETA submission and grant claims

Grant Claims and Skills Development Support

Once an organisation has submitted a duly completed WSP and ATR on time, it may qualify for grant funding through the relevant SETA. These funds can support the implementation of approved training and help the organisation recover part of its skills development levy contribution.

To support a claim, your company must generally be able to show that SDL has been paid and that approved training has taken place or is planned in line with relevant SETA and skills development requirements.

Ongoing Advice and Guidance

GISA supports companies with advice and guidance around discretionary grants, PIVOTAL programmes, SETA requirements, and skills development planning. This includes ongoing support to help businesses understand what needs to be submitted, when it must be submitted, and how to align training activities with compliance and development goals.

How GISA Can Assist

GISA can assist your company with:

  • Preparing and submitting Workplace Skills Plans

  • Compiling Annual Training Reports

  • Supporting mandatory grant claims

  • Advising on discretionary grant opportunities

  • Guiding PIVOTAL programme planning

  • Liaising with the relevant SETA

  • Supporting BEE Skills Development planning

  • Helping align training with company and learner needs

  • Providing ongoing skills development advice and support

Prepare Before the Deadline

The 30 April deadline is important because late or incomplete submissions may affect grant claims and compliance planning. Preparing early gives your business time to collect the correct training information, confirm employee records, review skills priorities, and submit a complete WSP and ATR.

GISA helps simplify this process by managing the planning, documentation, SETA communication, and submission support needed to keep your skills development process on track.
